Day 2

Today we spend the entire day at the Tulip Festival. Start the day with a narrated open-air wagon tour of Pella. A spieler (guide) will point out Pella’s many highlights as you travel past tulip gardens and historical landmarks. At 10 a.m., in the Memorial Building, three short programs highlight Dutch Delights, where you learn about authentic foods from The Netherlands and enjoy free samples; Dress Like a Dutch, where audience members will model Dutch costumes, and Meet the Burgemeister, where you meet the town’s honorary mayor, who shares stories about the festival. A tour of the 23-building Pella Historical Village Museum includes a guided tour of the mill, the Wyatt Earp House, the Werkplaats, Van Spanckeren’s General Store, the Dutch bakery and more than 28,000 tulips planted throughout the village. See the Vermeer Windmill, at 126 feet, the largest working windmill in the United States. We have reserved grandstand tickets for this afternoons, parade and grandstand show. The grandstand show features Dutch dancing and singing, Parade of Provinces style show, presentation of the Queen and her court and the famous street scrubbing. We also tour the elegant 23-room Dutch mansion of Dominie H. P. Scholte, the founder of Pella. Located behind the house are 35,000 tulips in the Scholte Gardens. Wrist bands are also provided for the golf cart shuttles with unlimited on and off privileges at designated pick up and drop off sites. Dinner tonight will be at a local Pella restaurant.
