Itinerary

Day 1
Board our coach and meet fellow travelers as we journey across Indiana to Ashland, Kentucky, our destination to overnight.

Day 2
This morning we depart for historic Michie Tavern, where servers in 18th century period attire welcome us for lunch. We visit Ash-Lawn Highland, home of President James Monroe. Our next stop is Monticello, the magnificent mountaintop mansion of Thomas Jefferson. Our overnight is in Charlottesville.

Day 3
After breakfast, we travel to Washington, D.C. and spend the remainder of the day at the Smithsonian Institution with your choice of the famed Air and Space Museum, the American History Museum, the American Indian Museum or the Natural History Museum.  We then travel a short distance to Alexandria, nestled along the Potomac River, our home for 3 nights.

Day 4
Our day begins with a visit to Mount Vernon, the plantation estate of George and Martha Washington.  This afternoon we visit the renowned Washington National Cathedral (if available), a national treasure and an architectural feat.  Visit Ford’s Theatre, where President Lincoln was fatally shot in 1865 and tour Petersen House, where Lincoln was carried after he was shot and where he died the following morning.  After our included dinner on the waterfront, we have an illumination driving tour of the memorials, monuments, U.S. Capitol and the White House (all government sites are subject to availability.)

Day 5
Our first stop today is at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.  Later we greet our guide, who will accompany us as we tour the many monuments and memorials that commemorate America’s heritage.  We will visit the moving World War 11 Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Memorial.  We will visit the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial.  This afternoon, we visit the somber Arlington Cemetery by tram, stopping for the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, the JFK Memorial and the Iwo Jima Memorial.

Day 6
This morning we depart for Gettysburg. Visit Gettysburg National Military Park’s new visitor center and see the exciting Cyclorama. You might try some Civil War food here for lunch on your own. This afternoon our park ranger-guided tour will capture the tragic story of the most historic Civil War Battle. Our dinner tonight will be at the historic Farnsworth House.

Day 7
Our first stop this morning is at Eisenhower National Historic Site, the only home ever owned by President Eisenhower. We depart from Gettysburg on our journey home, stopping in Cincinnati for our last night.
