Itinerary

Day 1

Meet new friends today as we travel east and south to Dalton, Georgia, where we overnight.

Day 2

We head to beautiful Savannah, the oldest city in Georgia. Enjoy dinner this evening at Corleone’s Trattoria. After dinner we board a trolley for the “Trolley Tales of Historic Haunts” tour.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will have a Savannah Historic District tour on a trolley. This tour will take you through the National Historic District of one of the most beautiful cities in America. Tour the Cathedral of St John the Baptist and Temple Mickve Israel. You will have lunch on your own and free time on River Street. After lunch you will board a boat at Hogan’s Marina. Sit back and enjoy the Bull River Eco-Adventure Cruise. Along this narrated cruise, you will enjoy and learn about marshland and tidal river ecology. You will have time for a great picture opportunity on the beach on Tybee Island. This evening dinner is included at the Crab Shack,        where the New York Times says “the elite eat in their bare feet.”

Day 4

Today we travel to Bluffton. Much of the downtown area is on the National Register of Historic Districts. You will see such places as Gobble & Squat, Heywood House built in 1840, Bluffton Oyster Factory, the Fripp House, Colcock-Teel House and the Church of the Cross built in 1857. You will see the entrance to the private residence Rose Hill Mansion and enjoy lunch served on the original furniture in the house. We continue on through the low country to the Charleston Tea Plantation. Take an enjoyable trolley ride through the tea fields and help yourself to all of the iced American Classic Tea you can drink and a factory tour. After our visit we will check-in our hotel and enjoy an evening dinner cruise aboard the Spiritline cruise ship offering music, entertainment and dancing.

Day 5

This morning we start our day with a tour of the Charleston Historic District. The tour begins at the Charleston Visitor’s Center. We visit the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where you have the opportunity to visit the Cadet’s Chapel based on availability. You will see the Joseph P. Riley Stadium and then on to the Battery, one of Charleston’s most historic sites. View White Point Garden, Fort Sumter in the Charleston Harbor, Rainbow Row and the beautiful houses along The Battery. You will have lunch on your own in the City Market, with free time to shop and explore. This afternoon we visit the Nathaniel Russell House, located in Downtown Charleston near High Battery. Sit back and enjoy dinner at The Noisy Oyster. You will enjoy unique sounds that define Charleston’s rich musical heritage presented by professional artists in concert in the historic Circular Congregational Church.

Day 6

Following breakfast and hotel check out, we depart for the magnificent Magnolia Plantation, where we visit the beautiful main house and ride the Nature Train through the extensive grounds in search of alligators, turtles, egrets and herons. What a beautiful site to remember as we depart from the Charleston area. Our journey today continues to Dalton, GA, where we overnight.

Day 7

Our captivating experience in the South must come to an end. We travel back to the reality of the Midwest, reminiscing with friends about the wonderful visit to the elegant and historic sites of the southeast.
