Day 1

Meet new friends today as we travel east and south to Dalton, Georgia, where we overnight.

Day 2

Rise and shine this morning as we head to beautiful Savannah, the oldest city in Georgia, once a colonial capital, adorned with its beautiful spring colors. Tonight enjoy a dinner of delicious Southern flavors, live entertainment and an unforgettable evening on a riverboat cruise.

Day 3

After breakfast, our guide will meet us at our hotel and take us on a tour of the Savannah Historic District. There is an indescribable charm about Savannah’s architectural simplicity. Travelers are drawn to Savannah because of its natural beauty, rich history and good old-fashioned Southern hospitality. The tour will include a visit to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the Owens Thomas House. This afternoon we will begin the tour of the Savannah Low Country seeing Fort Pulaski and the Tybee Lighthouse. Tonight experience genuine Savannah flavor while dining at a 1820’s King Cotton warehouse, The River House Seafood Restaurant.

Day 4

This morning we depart for Charleston, often called “The Holy City,” with its many steeples! En route discover the Charleston Tea Plantation to learn how Thomas Lipton fits into its history. Take a factory tour and visit the tea growing area aboard the “Tea Trolley.” Lunch included here. We continue into Charleston for a tour of the Historic District. Visit the Charleston Museum’s Joseph Manigault House, which reflects the lifestyle of a wealthy, rice-planting family and the slaves who also lived there. Also included is a visit to the Citadel and see the Joseph P. Riley Stadium, the Battery, White Point Garden, Fort Sumter and Rainbow Row. Dinner tonight at a local restaurant.

Day 5

This morning we visit historic Boone Hall Plantation, with its avenue of live oaks, for a tour of the grounds, house and slave cabins. See the new Gullah presentation telling the story of this cultural group, so significant in the history of the South. Once known for growing cotton and pecans, this working plantation today grows fruits and vegetables to market. Free time in City Market area. Lunch is included before we board our narrated sightseeing harbor cruise for magnificent views of the fascinating city of Charleston. Glide past palatial homes, historic landmarks, Fort Sumter and Waterfront Park. This evening relax with dinner on your own.

Day 6

Following breakfast and hotel check out, we depart for magnificent Magnolia Plantation, where we visit the beautiful main house and ride the Nature Train through the extensive grounds in search of alligators, turtles, egrets and herons. What a beautiful site to remember as we depart from the Charleston area. Our journey today continues to Dalton, GA, where we overnight.

Day 7

Our captivating experience in the South must come to an end. We travel back to the reality of the Midwest, reminiscing with friends about the wonderful visit to the elegant and historic sites of the southeast.
