Adventures in Idaho


We fly into Spokane, Washington, for our Adventures in Idaho tour. We will learn some history and the methods of silver mining, ride a carousel, ride a trolley for a tour of Boise, tour the Basque Community, experience some river rafting on the Salmon River, take a jet boat ride through Hells Canyon.

Day 1

Our adventure begins as we fly to Spokane, Washington. We board our luxury motorcoach and travel to the beautiful city of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, where we overnight. We enjoy a relaxing dinner overlooking the Coeur d’ Alene Lake and the Spokane River.

Day 2

Our adventure begins today with a scenic drive across the Silver Valley. We visit The Cataldo Mission, built in 1840’s by the missionaries and The Coeur d’ Alene Tribe side by side. We continue on to the Silver Capital of the World, Wallace, Idaho, where we experience the methods of hard-rock mining with a retired miner as our guide through a real silver mine. You have time to explore the historic town. We overnight in Missoula, Montana. Included Meal: Breakfast

Day 3

We leave Missoula behind and travel down the Salmon River Scenic Byway beside the Salmon River and passing through the serene Lemhi Valley. We travel through the mountain town of Salmon, which confirms why Idaho is called the Whitewater Capital of the World. We continue our scenic drive on the Peaks to Crater Scenic Byway through the little western town of MacKay, silhouetted by the crags of the towering Lost River Range. We stop at the Craters of the Moon visitor center. Our next stop is the visitor center at the Perrine Bridge, where you can enjoy the scenic overlooks, walk across the bridge that spans 1500 feet in length across the Snake River Canyon and maybe watch BASE Jumpers as they parachute from the 486-foot-tall Perrine Bridge. Overnight at Twin Falls, Idaho.

Day 4

This morning we visit Shoshone Falls, a geological marvel with fantastically eroded basalt cliffs surrounding it, which are all relics of the Bonneville Flood, a catastrophic torrent that ripped through the canyon about 15,000 years ago. Now onto the Bruneau Dunes. The two dunes cover about 600 acres and rise 470 feet above the surrounding desert floor. We enjoy a picnic lunch at the dunes. This afternoon we travel to Boise and take a tour of the city aboard a trolley. This evening we visit the Basque community for a Basque Dinner and a performance by the Oninkaris, a Basque Dance group. Overnight in Boise.

Day 5

Today we travel the Payette River Scenic Byway to McCall, Idaho, to the Smokejumper Base in Missoula, Montana. This afternoon we will have some free time in the charming resort town of McCall, situated on the southern shore of Payette Lake.  We overnight at the Salmon Rapids Lodge in Riggins, Idaho.

Day 6

Our adventure today and one of the highlights of the trip is a full-day whitewater rafting excursion through pristine wilderness backcountry on the Salmon River. A picnic lunch is served on the riverbank of the Snake River. Later we enjoy a dinner served riverside.

Day 7

Today we travel to Pittsburg Landing Marina in White Bird, Idaho for “The Wild River Tour” in a jet boat through Hells Canyon. Along the way, we see many wildlife species, which may include big horn sheep, elk, deer, bear, and bald eagles, and we also stop at some historical and interesting places. Lunch is served at Hells Canyon Dam and Visitor Center. After our Hells Canyon Adventure, we travel through the Nez Perce area of Idaho to Lewiston.

Day 8

This morning we experience many of the region’s amazing stories at the Nez Perce County Historical Museum. On our way to Spokane, we view Port Lewiston at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers. This afternoon, ride on the Spokane Falls Sky Ride, named “one of the Top 12 Scenic Cable Rides in the World” by Conde Nast, for a panoramic view of the water rushing over the falls. Enjoy some time in the picturesque Riverfront Park in downtown. Our evening ends with a farewell dinner at Anthony’s by the Falls in Spokane,Washington.

Day 9

We travel back to reality with all the memories of the beautiful scenery, exciting adventures and knowledge of the history learned.
