The Amish people live today as their ancestors did when they first set foot in America years ago. This people-to-people journey takes us into the homes and communities of the Amish as we learn how they continue to preserve and perpetuate their unique culture.

Itinerary

Day 1
Depart by motorcoach for our destination, Das Dutchman Essenhaus Inn and Conference Center, in Middlebury, Indiana, where we stay for 4 nights.  After dinner, relax as we listen to a local historian who tells  us  about the history of and difference between the Amish and Mennonites.

Day 2
Today begins at Dutch Country where we see how delicious Amish noodles are made. Make a pretzel at JoJo’s. Visit the fascinating quilt shop, where the father also makes colorful jams, jellies and pie fillings to sell.  Enjoy watching our lunch preparation, followed by the bountiful meal and a delightful relaxing buggy ride in the countryside. Visit Bender’s Camel Dairy, one of only 7 in the U.S.

Day 3
Visit an Amish family farm, shop in the country (general) store where the Amish purchase fabric, clothing, kitchen items and more.  Examine the  toys and printed selections in the Little Nook Bookstore.  Enjoy  a delicious  Haystack lunch. Sit back and relax at the Amish Acres Round Barn Theater for the matinee performance of Plain and Fancy, which tells the story of love and life on an Amish farm. Dinner this evening will be at a local Amish establishment.

Day 4
Try your hand at building a beautiful birdhouse on an Amish farm. Tour Menno-Hof, a wonderful interactive presentation which travels through five centuries of history, from Switzerland to present-day Indiana, telling the story of the Amish. Spend time at The Mercantile, a unique shopping site created by the Amish.  This afternoon, enjoy entertainment at The Blue Gate Theater. Try your hand at the Quilting Bee before enjoying the scrumptious dinner and visiting an Amish home.

Day 5
Today we say goodbye to Middlebury and return home.
